Budget - Come Dine With Me

I think this would be a great Come Dine With Me episode, 80% (I did see one guy shop at Lidil and cook pigs trotters!) of the time the contestants use expensive ingredients!

Each contestants must cook their meal using only the value supermarket products..... I think it would be very interesting!

I saw someone do it (I don't remember pigs trotters) who wanted to showcase what you could do with budget food and it was dreadful. It was so rubbish, it was hilarious!

Starter - Tuna and Bean Salad. Tin of tuna (drained), tin of kidney beans (drained), onion (chopped)
Pudding - Banana and Orange Surprise. One of the guests joked the surprise would be banana and orange on a plate....
Banana (peeled and cut in half), tin of madarin segemnts (drained), squirty cream. Prepare on the floor.

I loved that one. Not as much as the psycho carpet seller from Preston, but it was memorable!

Friends of ours suggested that we do 'come dine with me' amongst our group of friends, having dinner parties each week and scoring each other. I fancy that, just need to organise it.

I think they get about £125 for ingredients, anything above that they have to pay themselves and the cab is paid for too, i believe.

£125! wow thats a big budget. Didnt realise it was so much. Love the show though, really interesting to see how others cook/serve food.

Celeb ones are good.....like to have a look round their houses!

The value idea is good, think also a lower budget would be better. Or even better, how about ready steady cook style- guests take it in turn to choose a goody bag of ingredients and the cook must use x amount of them in their dinner.

I recently went to dinner party and we got talking about food... I mentioned that recently my husband can kill for my pork belly roast with mash and cabbage (total cost for 2 people £4 approx) and all the men at the party tried to invite themselves to my house!!! Guys apparently love pork belly.
And it looks like a posh meal...

I have seen the episode with the trotters twice.....made me smile that it was a Scottish man, and not short of cash either from the sounds of his businesses!
I don't fancy trotters but equally don't fancy some of the expensive things on there either!
It is a funny programme and I like to see the varied recipes and what happens when things go wrong!

I'm sure I read that on here - maybe it was the celeb one :o

There's a Come Dine With Me thread in 'The Arms' - will go and check ****had a look at a recent post and someone there thought it was £125 but I think there is an earlier post that says the same****

here's the link to The Arms thread, if anyone's interested - lots of observation & discussion on that http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=268311
