Can anyone advise the most efficeint and cost free way to send small sums of money to individuals in India. I have been using cheques but these appear to take a long time to clear and I am not sure how much the recipient has to pay in order for them to be processed.

India is a pain in the backside when it come to foreign payments.
Nearly every other civilised country can process payments in days but with India it can be weeks.
There is no efficient or cost free way unless ICICI bank can help.
I would suggest you check out their website.0

ICICI will transfer money to other ICICI banks in india free of charge and almost instantly. I think they will transfer to other banks but charge a small amount compared to the likes of Western Union and it might take 23 or 4 days. If you want to make a number of transfers it might be worth it to open up an account at ICICI for this purpose.0
