I went bankrupt almost 6 yrs ago, and have been nothing but sensible ever since. In the last couple of years i have built up a nice (but small) credit history, paying all my bills on time. I just ordered my credit report to look at how things are going and hoping that i would have a nice credit file when my BR finally drops off, however..
To my horror I found a default from british gas last month. This relates to a debt from my old house I shared with my ex (I left May 2008). When I left the arrangement was for her to change the bill into her name only (was joint before) and pay off the debt monthly on top of her existing bill. Obviously she hasnt..
Spoke to BG who told me the account was never changed over and is still in joint names with the balance still outstanding (even tho its closed). They told me to provide evidence I left the house in May 2008 and they will take it from there, which I can do.
Does anyone know what my chances are of getting this default removed? I acccept I probably should have told them myself I was leaving the property, but stupidly i trusted my ex. Im even willing to pay the debt if that makes any difference to my file?. I really dont want this affecting my file for ANOTHER six years after everything i've been through!
Also, does anyone know if you can find out more info on searches? I also have a search for a loan i know i did not apply for, and although i know this isnt as important as the default it annoys me that its there and am 99% sure not my doing..
Thanks everyone
