Finally did it!

Hi

I have been lurking on this forum for the past few months now knowing i had a debt problem and today i finally contacted Payplan and have now begun the journey of dealing with my debts!

Its been quite an emotional weekend, i hide my problem from my partner for so long and told him at the weekend. It didnt go down well at first but now he understands why i hide it and glad i told him.

So i have my call with Payplan this weekend! Kind of worried but i know it will be ok.

Im just wondering what other peoples experiences with Payplan are?

Im just looking forward to the day i am debt free and no longer a debt free wannabe!! :j

Well done for facing up to things and for being honest with your OH! That's an amazing first step and you should feel really proud. :j

I don't have any experiences with Payplan I'm afraid but if you do a bit of research on the board - look through other posts - I'm sure you'll find some info/stories!
Have you done your SOA? It might help you ahead of your Payplan call, just to have it all in black and white in front of you. Here's the link:

Good luck with your journey and keep posting! :T

  • I used Payplan, and during the initial setup of the DMP, they were fantastic, so helpful & understanding.

I did it all over the phone & I still remember some of the things that the first lady I spoke to said to me. I was embarrassed about my problem and she told me that she had heard it all, and much worse before. Also she speculated that I might be best with an IVA and I said I was worried that that would mean that I didn't pay all my creditors back in full, which was something I wanted to do and she said 'They don't care about you, you are just a number to them - you must do what is best for you'

As it happens, they didn't recommend an IVA, but what she said stuck with me, and I have subsequently found it to be true, and I have learned not to be the soft touch I was then. Wish I had found this site whilst I was in my worst times - I'd have contacted Payplan a heck of a lot sooner and been a lot more savvy when dealing with my creditors

  • well done you for facing up to this- .

I am with Payplan and can endorse the other posting- I've been hiding from my own debt problem for way too long, have been through the sleepless nights etc, and finally, like you, had a weekend when I faced it all.
Payplan have been absolutely marvellous- you do have to initiate contact with them if you are worried about anything but they do know what they are doing, and have a wealth of experience. I could not have done all this myself, I know it's possible to do your own letters etc, but the hassle from creditors is ridiculous, so I've found it much better to let someone else take that burden.

It's all early stages for me but I am eternally grateful not just for Payplan, but for this forum- I am learning so much by reading the other postings, but more than that knowing it's not just me going through this.

Keep posting -everyone says I look so much better already, I have enough money now each month to buy all the food I need to, and not have to stress about the basics.

take care and I hope it all works out for you:A

I'm on a DMP with Payplan too and echo what the others have said. They've been great for me for the past few years and hopefully 2009 is the year I become totally debt free, which is only because of the help and advice I got from Payplan. I dread to think what would have happened to me if they didn't sort me out! You've done a very brave thing and I promise you that things will only get better from here. :)
