Prescription (normal) Sunglasses?

Hi all,
I've been doing a fair bit of looking around as i've just found out I appear to have lost my old prescription sunglasses (just ones from specsavers with a tint!). I'm after a pair of proper sunglasses now, not like normal glasses with tints!

I see you can get prescription (rx) sunglasses now that either have the prescription in the lens, as with normal glasses; and you can also get sunglasses with the 'rx adaptor' which sits inbetween the sungalsses lens' and your eyes.

Can anyone give any advice on what these sunglasses with adaptors are like, or if anyone knows any cheap places to get sunglasses with a prescription (preferably the ones without the need for an adaptor, where the lens is made for the prescription needed) please, please let me know!

Also, if I got a cheap pair of sunglasses, the sporty type shape ones which are 'wrap around', will anywhere on the high street be able to make lenses to fit in them?

I've always understood from my opticians that if the curve is too much on a wraparound style it makes them unsuitable for prescription lenses.

I'd love wraparound prescription ones. They are apparently good when the pollen count is high for us hayfever sufferers. I've not heard of the 'rx' adaptor. I got Gucci prescription sunglasses on a special offer a few years ago when I bought normal new glasses. Most opticians have special offers on for prescription sunglasses at some point over the year.

Have a look at www.specsuperstore.com they have a wide range of prescription sunglasses and also put lenses into designer frames. I have purchased from them myself and they give a good service.

Have had 2 pairs from them .One sunglasses ,one tint for work.Total cost £64 .Excellent delivery time.Have had the glasses for over 2 months now no probs.Not the quality you get from some high street names but for the price brill.

Hiya, I got myself a pair of Oakley prescription sunglasses last year, wrap arounds. I was told by the opticians that Oakley are the only people who can do this, otherwise you have to buy sunglasses with a flat lense. They cost me a lot of money but they were worth every penny on my fortnight holiday as I could see everything and keep the sun out of my eyes...

Boots do prescription sunglasses (don't think wrap around though). complete price starts from £58 but there is currently a £20 off voucher at the Advantage machine

Is this only specific stores, or do all boots have an optician bit?

No not all Boots have opticians. Some have them within the store and some are separate stores. See www.bootsopticians.com

Wrap around sunglasses are expensive to have made, however I had a normal pair of sunglasses made in Vision Express last year! Their sunglasses had stickers on to tell you which ones could have prescription lenses put in. I picked a pair of Ted Baker frames which were around the £70 mark and they cost £110 in total with the lenses and took about a week to be ready. They have to be one colour lenses, so they can't do the fade effect, but I LOVE mine, I lived in them last summer! In fact I find them nicer to wear than my normal glasses

D&A sell RayBan sunglasses, in a wrap around style but they are pricey e.g. £199
