Help solicitors got our money and are no longer trading

Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can guide us in the right direction of what we can do. Couple of years ago we remortgaged to help consolidate debts and some funds were left with the whiterose solicitors ready for settlements, we never had statements of how the money was doing nor were we advised they were closing. We only found out as we needed the money to start the settlements, now they're gone! I've called all numbers I can associated with that address and found that another solicitor has taken on some of the work load but not all. we were given a person to write to and did so a few weeks ago, we've heard nothing and the number is also dead! Where do we go from here? Who do we contact? We're trying to get out of debt not lose more money!! Thanks for reading

I don't really understand - why would you leave cash in a solicitor's client account for several years?
Have you tried speaking to the Law Society?

Hi & welcome to MSE

This should be of assistance, I hope this is resolved for you:

I don't think this is a dishonesty case at all.
Money held on client account is pretty secure. It sounds as though the solicitors practise has ceased. In this event, the Law Society (SRA) intervenes and allocates the workload and monies to other firms. Call them and find out what happened.0 -
It's quite usual for money to be left in a solicitor's client account, but the solicitor is not supposed to use that money, except where it's transferred to the office account to cover fees that they've charged. Usually they would invest it on your behalf.
I'd agree with the advice to get in touch with the Law Society ASAP - they regulate the system, and the solicitor's auditor is also supposed to do a report to them every year that clients' monies are being treated properly. They should be able to advise you0
