Good question and I can't answer because I'm new to this myself but would like to piggy back on this.

I'm worried about my earnings, with the petrol allowance on paper I am constantly making a loss but my car doesn't use 40p worth of petrol per mile so in reality I am making a profit. ( If I put £4.00 in my car I can do a lot more than 10 miles if you see what I mean ).
I don't fancy doing the actual mileage calculations which is the other way so I would like to stick with the 40p way.

I'm just worried when i come to do my tax return then HMRC will question why I am bothering to work if I always make a loss.

Any help would be really grateful.
I've just done a quick work out for my tax return to see what my bill will be looking like. I only started msing in Feb this year. My total tax due by my calculation for this tax year is £4.92. I think that for at the first full tax year you do, you can get away with making a loss on a lot of your jobs as you could always use the excuse that you took those jobs for the experience and to enable you to take on better jobs closer to home. Everyone knows that you gotta get experience somewhere, and if that means in the first year take a few jobs that will not pay then it must be. That's my excuse and I am sticking to it :j
Too much month, not enough Cash!

    Make £11000 in 2011 challenge - current total £1358.77
  • Just accepted a job where I have to pay by debit card and in the instructions, it says this:

    - Do not purchase saving stamps if you are paying by credit card. (Saving Stamp - cash only)-

Any thoughts? Can you buy saving stamps with a debit card?

I have also in the past as it hasn't said no to credit cards and you know how specific Gap can be.

I think it's mainly because credit cards work differently to debit cards and might be something to do with money laundering... or something.

I know if I use my Alliance & Leicester debit card it is treated as a cash transaction becuase technically the client withdraws the cash from your bank account, and then you pay cash. Usually they don't bother handing you the cash in between. Hope that helps.

No savings stamps are cash only. For the scenarios where you can use cash then savings stamps are allowed.

    Computer shops reappearing on RE...

If it's the ones from a blue coloured shop who do lots of electronics then be prepared for a very long write up. That one got me into trouble as I couldn't complete my order reports on time. Never again!

I'm getting concerned now! People keep posting about new jobs on RE but all I can see are the same 3 pub jobs... about 50 miles away from me!

Me too! Maybe we've already done them once and they won't reappear?
