Hi,

I have finally given in to the wife's demands and agreed to buy a new Sofa.

Beside DSF, Reid and Harveys I am not sure who else sells Sofas. We had a look at Ikea, but their Sofas somehow didn't appeal to us.

I have seen one at Harveys, but I have read a lot of bad things about the company.

DFS I am suspicious about, as they seem to offer free credit on everything, which they must already have calculated into the price. When I asked for a (discounted) cash price the Salesguy looked at me like I was a three eyed monster.

Do you have any other recommendations in the Belfast/Lisburn/Newry Area?

Cheers,
dsab

Our leather sofa came from Next and I have to say almost 3 years on we are still very pleased with it.

I've heard so many horror stories about the quality (or lack of!) in DFS sofas and the terrible customer service from Harveys that I would definately avoid them.

Do you have a budget? M&S do some really nice sofas but they are a bit pricey. What about Keen's on the Albertbridge Road or Rite Price on York Street? Both worth a look.

  • If you have them in your area - stay away from Barker & Stonehouse!

We splashed out on a really expensive leather sofa six years ago, it hasn't suffered any abuse and one day about two years ago it just collapsed in the middle. We took the fabric off the bottom to have a look and tbh could have bought the timber from a local merchant and made it ourselves for £50.00 - the quality is awful. We have tightened the bolts on the supporting strut at either end (this one piece of thin wood was along the whole length of a three seater with no additional foot in the middle!) On the other hand, we have had an ikea ektorp sofa for twelve years which is still really comfy and going strong. I have seen Next sofa's and they look well made and sturdy so when ours is due for renewal will give them a go i think.

Seymour Dugan near Bow St. mall in Lisburn are quite good. They have a limited range compared to Reid / DFS but they are willing to deal. I was round all the usual suspects last week for a sofa - ended up buying from Ikea. Our previous sofa came from DFS 2 years ago. No problems with quality or delivery.
