i am having problems with the Bank of Scotland i have already asked them to stop all my direct debits as i have be unemployed for about 2 months, which they have done but every month i get a statement in they have allowed a couple of companys to try and take money out my account and now i am facing charges of around £900 becuse they say its not up to them to cancel direct debits "its my job to talk to the companys involved before BOS will stop the debits" is this right oh and they have cancelled my account and still take charges out knowing i have no money coming in at the moment and allowing aol to try and take money out my account
tried to email CAB (haven't been able to get in to local office) was admin only not advice. in particular if there are any CAB advisers who can advise would be much appreciated

Lets get one thing right (well two actually) the bank don't let the companies try to get their money but it is the D/D originator who asks.
Also cancelling the D/D does not cancel the contracts you have with the originators - they will still want their money despite you cancelling them at the bank.
A cancelled D/D should not be charged for if it takes you overdrawn or over your limit.
If in this instance you do not have a D/D at all with AOL but a card payment then the bank are right in saying they cannot stop these payments. Here you would need to contact AOL to stop payments.0 -
If you haven't cancelled the DD with AOL they are entitled to reinstate it any time they want to use it. You may have cancelled the old one - they just set up a new one as they still as far as they are concerned have your authority to do so - you haven't told them otherwise.0
