would def go for smart dress, or a suit for the men!
although, going by the staf at my last signing on, it seemed all very casual- might have been something to do with the heating on full blast..?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

I think the outfit the OP has described is fine. I don't know why people have preconceptions about suits - anyone can buy a suit, doesn't mean they're better at the job than someone who chooses not to!
As long as you're smart, clean and tidy I wouldn't worry. I also think by choosing something other than a suit you're demonstrating free thinking and creativity - too many people think chucking a suit on = looking smart. Not true!0 -

Any public sector applicants should really wear a suit.
Minimal makeup, jewellery and tattoos and peircings covered etc...Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!0 -

tattoos and piercings covered? What, in case they offend? I thought discrimination of this sort was illegal?!
Tattoos and piercings are very much part of everyday life nowadays. I have friends with lots of tattoos/piercings/wild hair who have very respectable jobs.
I am rather alternative looking and currently have a respectable job in banking.Bored0
