I was made redundant after working for a certain compnay for exactly a year. I wasnt paid any redundancy pay as the employer wasnt offering any. Went to Jobcentre to claim for jobseekers allowance and received a letter from them that I did not make enogh contributions for the tax year 2006 - 2007(this is the tax year they are currently using) I was still a student during this time. I feel a bit disappointed. Anyone in this situation as well or any advise please.

Hi, you would not have been entitled to redundancy pay because you need to be with the employer for 2 or more years.
You need to have paid ni conts for the previous 2 years to be entitled to cont based jsa which you have not. You could be entitled to income based jsa, but this depends on your circumstances. Do you live with your partner? Do they work? Depends on your household income!0 -
I would appeal for it, and ask for 'income based JSA' instead. If you have less than £6000 of savings, you will be eligible.
I haven't heard anyone refused JSA payments before.

She may have been refused if she has a partner who is working or has more than then £16,000 savings.I would appeal for it, and ask for 'income based JSA' instead. If you have less than £6000 of savings, you will be eligible.

p.s you can be eligible if you have more than £6000 but you recieve a reduced amount dependant on the amount of savings, aslong as the saving are no more than £160000 -
I got refused for the same reason, and because my boyfriend is on a good salary. But after a year together he had no obligation to support me (he always would, because he is lovely). My friend however, who lives with her insanely wealthy parents was able to claim it!Wins 2012: £50 Love2Shop voucher, Lets Dance tickets, Juan Zelades CD, bluetooth speaker, Blackberry 9360 with £30 credit a month, Chocolate, Maybelline Goodie Bag, Hunter wellies!0

I got refused for income based jsa - my partner earns too much - we don't have any savings at all - they never even asked me that.
I was pretty much told that anything over £60.50 a week coming into the household knocks the income based jsa penny for penny.
So unless you are the only one in the household or the other is on benefits you are prob not entitled.
Your partner could get working tax credits, also could be worth trying for housing benefit and council tax relief etc...Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!0 -
My bf recently lost his job (company went bust) and signed on for contributions based JSA. He recieved a letter today saying that they weren't going to pay him JSA because he hadn't made enough NI contributions. He was with his previous company for 3 years! How is this so? Can anyone help please?0

If he disputes that he did not pay enough NI contributions he needs to take his P60s for the relevant tax years (07/08 and 06/07) to JobcentrePlus so that they can override the information downloaded by the computer.0
