Chicken Crumble Ideas

Options
Okay so I've made my stock from a chicken carcass and now have about 300g of chicken from the carcass (I cant believe how much meat we used to throw away).

Previously I've used the stock and meat to make a chicken soup (mighty fine it was too). But this time I'd like to have ago at making a chicken crumble.

Trouble is I'm not sure where to start. Has anybody got any great store cupboard chicken crumble recipes?

Darran.

I did one last week - make a thick sauce with milk and stock - added veg and chicken and topped with breadcrumbs tossed in melted butter, would have put cheese in the crumbs too but my son doesn't eat cheese

How about using some stuffing mix in with the crumble? Or at least some sage/chives/onion salt mixed in with the crumble.

Rachbc did you cook your veg first or let it cook in the oven.

Do you rememeber the cooking temperature and time.

I like to add some ham or bacon, if I have it and otes and mixed herbs into the crumble bit.
  • I use a basic crumble mix with oats and Apricot stuffing mix.
Another favourite topping is potato pastry which is just mashed potatoes, mash with butter and a little milk, salt and pepper ,flour and a little baking powder. Mix together to form a dough and it is a nice change. You can add an egg if you want and some grated cheese for a nice cheesy pastry
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I fried onion and carrot in the chiken fat from the roas, added flour for a roux then the stock and milk and coked out for about 10 mins. Added frozen veg and chicken then cooled the whole lot down before adding the topping. baked it later at 200 for about 20mins covering in foil then 10 mins without. I guess if were topping straight away after making the sauce could just brown in hot oven for 10-15 mins.

Loving the idea of using stuffing mox - will have a go with that next time

Cheers Rachbc, I was thinking about preparing it the night before but wondered how it would turn out. I think I'll try it tonight for tomorrows tea.
