Time for them to stand on their own two feet and pay their own way perhaps? or maybe they need a bit more life experience to realise how hard this is for you?

You are not ruining everyone's life, you are taking a positive step in trying to sort the situation out instead of burying your head in the sand, promising them that everything is ok and will be ok whilst you bear the whole burden on your back.
It is not fair to place the blame solely on your shoulders - I am sure your family have had much benefit from your hard work over the years, time for them to pay it back to you with loving support!
Virtual pint perhaps?
They have indeed 35 days paid holiday a year! to start with! ... plus a loads of perks ... now I'm getting bitter again... must stop it ... doesn't help calming my sleep wave patterns0 -

Reading about your family makes me feel really sad. Maybe they just do not understand how bad the situation really is?
I am all on my own (with my 2 kids and a mum who lives far away) and often I have thought that everything would be so much easier if I had a big family and an OH, but now I think that this would not necessarily be the case.
Maybe time will help your family get used to the thought of BR happening to you, I really hope you will get their support soon.
When I am worried about the BR situation I always log on this site, as everyone is so helpful and supportive. Reading other people's posts can really help you feel calmer.
I wish you all the best, life will get better again!

Hi TB
I'm still here, just in case you were wondering, monitoring your posts/ruminations!
You will experience a helluva emotional roller-coaster and do not upset yourself if you say or do strange things, they are merely a consequence of your mind dealing with a crisis sub-consciously. When I get hyper-stressed I tend to nod off - quite useful actually - but it used to really freak me out because I knew I couldn't be tired! My ex-wife would berate me for my rudeness as it used to happen alot at social gatherings, especially at dinner parties.
It was only when I started doing it again, many years later & with this financial implosion, did I recognise the symptoms and accept them as a defensive reaction.
I think it also helps a great deal if you are able to compartmentalise things in your life. For instance, over this last weekend I knew there was b****r all I could do about the latest tasty letter from one of my creditors threatening to 'send the boys round' or words to that effect, that I just put it in the equivalent of the 'Pending' file and leave it there. If you visualise this its actually quite liberating!
Anyway, I hope this has helped abit. Don't worry about the VAT man, he's just another govt. agency. If you're going to go BR they will be lumped into it all anyway.
Keep smiling old bean
Charlie
