DVD Recorder with Hard Drive?

Hi
Just done quick browse of the forums but cant find anything so apologies if it's been done before.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a DVD recorder wit a hard drive preferrably, as Sky dont seem to be offering me a decen deal on Sky+ and the HD would coe in handy.

Also, what features should you look out for when getting one of these - ideally i would like to be able to watch and record a Sky prog at the same time if possible, but then i guess that's a PVR?

Otherwise, one that plays most formats of discs, and transfers VHS to DVD (eventually), and is multiregion is what i am after i guess.

Thanks

  • I am very pleased with the Sony RDR-HX510 DVD Recorder I purchased 3 months ago. Has all the facilites ever needed including High speed dubbing from/to the built in 80GB HD and any DVD format including Dual Layer DVDs. Takes about 5 mins for a complete film to transfer from the HD to a DVD and vice versa. Has Pause facility on the TV and many more features. Purchased this through http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/ via KK Electronics. Orderd it at midday and was delivered at 9am the following morning !!
I thoroughly researched all the DVD recorders and although there are cheaper ones on the market I think this is the best.

I see nobody has mentioned how much they paid!
I hear the hard disks are the same as computer ones which are now very cheap.
My plan was to buy the cheapest even if it had a small hard drive then replace it with a large one.
    Anyone done a costing?

The only thing you can do this with is Sky+ I'm afraid. AFAIK there are no PVRs that can do this either as they will not have Sky CAM slot which is unique to Sky's own encryption system. If you wish to do this with ANY DVD recorder currently then you will need two Sky boxes with the multiroom subscription.
