Changing wage to avoid paying

Having recently found out I was pregnant and telling the father, who wanted an abortion we are no longer in contact. He has however told me and evidenced that between him and his boss he has dropped his wage from £16 per hour to minimum wage (think its about 5.70) so he will not have to contribute any cash. I was not planning on going through the CSA and thought we could of sorted out some sort of private arrangement, he does want to have contact with the child but does not want to pay and doesnt see why he should. But this is not right or fair.I know he will be getting his money topped up somehow but im not sure how. Is this allowed to be done?

No. And there could be serious consequences for his employer if they try and " hide " income he receives.0

Thanks - but how do i go about doing anything about it? Do I tell him its not allowed and try to resolve it between us or do I just see how it goes.He has also used all his savings to pay a car loan off so they cant get hold of them either.I always have told him i didnt want money for me or my house just something to help with the baby when im on materity leave.0

The savings are irrelevant - they wouldn't have been taken into account anyway.
If he is not wanting to pay money privately then you will need to go through the CSA. If his emplyer has dropped his wage and is paying him on the side for the excess then, as Kelloggs has said, this is illegal and you would need to inform the CSA of your concerns and provide any proof if you can (any old payslips lying in your house?)
Even if he has dropped to the minimum wage then he will still need to pay 15% of his net pay to you. Not much comfort I know but at least he will need to pay something albeit a grossly reduced figure.
Personally I wouldn't try and persuade him to pay privately. He's made it clear his feelings on the pregnancy and is trying to hide money already.
Btw, congratulations! Don't let his attitude cloud a happy event for you x0 -
I think you'd have more luck telling him (or possibly his employer) that if he goes ahead, you will be forced to report them both to the Inland Revenue. The IR take income tax evasion very, very seriously, and if he is fudging the money he earns somehow and getting money in other ways from his employer, then chances are they are breaking IR rules and not paying the correct tax. I imagine the employer will feel a lot more threatened by the IR than the CSA, as he could get into a lot of trouble.0
