Holiday let market in trouble

I'm going to Lundy this Easter. There is a rental house on Lundy, called Tibbets, which has no electricity and is basically a shack in the middle of an island, in the middle of the Bristol Channel. (In fact the juice is turned off at midnight to all of Lundy.) Some of the rental houses on Lundy are single roomed converted pig sheds, yet are occupied all year round.
I have a mate, who lives in the middle east, earns several hundred thousand pounds and can holiday wherever he so desires. His holiday of choice every few years is to stay at Tibbets, specifically because it is so basic, remote and far removed from the pressures of modern life.

Several of the houses on this list are tiny one bed cottages. Many are very basic and quite remote. Like I say, at least one has no electricity whatsoever and none have any electricity after midnight. It's just a block of granite sticking out of the sea and you have to make your own fun. I'm going with a large mixed group of adults and kids. If the weather's nice it's like heaven on earth.0 -
i nearly got caught out on buying a holiday home, sold before it was completed - it looked a good investment but remote managing doesn't give the holiday maker any level of service.
Yes that's what keeps me out of this market too, I would only enter it if we moved (retired) to Devon or somewhere similar where managing would be hands on0 -

Where are your cottages and do you take dogs
Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria Island
Pets no problem.
Out of season I have availability, especially July n August.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Just googled those areas, sorry I thought you were talking about the UK, since we got our dog we only do holiday cottages in the UK (Europe isn't impossible sometime in the future, especially Spain in the winnter). I never liked flying much anyway, too much hassle0 -

I have to say I could think of worse places to spend a couple of weeks - I absolutely love Anna Maria Island - when we go to Florida - most years - we try and stay on the island. We're going in June - but we're staying on the mainland this year.
I wanted somewhere that charged in £'s not $'s this year for obvious reasons! So we went for somewhere a bit cheaper than usual - as I'm not sure how expensive we will find the US this time. Though we have been when the exchange rate was just a bad (about 10 years ago) and it was ok.0 -

I read the same post and thought of Tibbetts and then read yours! We stayed at Bramble Villa West when we went and my parents in the Castle Keep. Love it there. I would love to go back on day and stay in Tibbetts for a short break. I can imagine early in the morning there it would be magical.0
