I also buy the frozen coley. A couple of our faves off the top of my head are:
Tomatoey Coley Curry - Put as many fillets as you need in a saucepan. Stir about 1 tbsp tomato puree and 1 tbsp curry paste into a 400g tin of tomatoes then pour this over the fish. Simmer for about 10 mintues or until the fish is cooked. It doesn't matter if the fish breaks up - it is better if it is in chunks. This is lovely with salad and naans.
Italian Fish Bake - (We are having this tonight oddly enough) Put as many fillets in an oven dish as you need. Tip a tin of tomatoes over the top and stir a squirt of tomato puree in too. Add a sprinkling (about a tsp) of oregano or fresh basil leaves and some black olives. Tear a ball of mozzarella and scatter the pieces over the top. Bake for about 20-30 minutes until the fish is cooked and sauce bubbling. Nice with salad or green veg and potatoes or bread.
Smoked salmon trimmings are very cheap and lovely mixed with pasta. It also doesn't smell or taste as strong as, say, smoked haddock or kippers.
We also like sardines - only pence to buy in Asda in the tomato sauce. Mash the sardines and their sauce on a slice of toast. You can eat just like this, but I like to sprinkle with oregano, top with cheese then melt under the grill. You could do this on pittas or split muffins for mini pizzas.
Tinned mackerel is a great cheap and tasty alternative to tuna, which unlike tuna, counts as an oily fish too.Love and compassion to all x0 -
I use frozen pollock as well - I get mine from Lidls. Pop some fillets in an oven proof dish. Cook for 10 mins or so then take out of the oven and top with pesto (red or green) sliced tomatos and grated cheese. Pop back in the oven for 15 - 20 mins until fish done. This is really tasty.Don't be a sheep, be a shepard!

I must admit I don't cook much fish as I am not a big lover of really fishy fish (IYSWIM!).
I normally bake a tuna steak in the oven with a topping of balsamic vinegar, red peppers, onion and anything else I can bung on top!
Will have a look at Iceland for the Coley fish - I do like cod but it's sooooooo expensive.
I've tried fish pies in the past but they've always been really tasteless.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

I really don't like "wet" fish but I do eat canned fish and often make tuna noodle casserole which is just boiled pasta mixed with drained canned tuna mixed with a tin of Campbells condensed celery or mushroom soup, milk, a tbs of flour and some seasonings and a pinch of mixed herbs. I put it all in a greased casserole dish and top with crushed Ritz or Tuc crackers mixed with parmesan cheese. It's yummy!
I also love sardines on toast, hm salmon fishcakes and tuna salad - just tuna, chopped boiled egg, diced cucumber, celery, tomatoes, spring onions, cottage cheese all mixed up with some thousand island dressing - it sounds vile but tastes amazing on toast or crusty bread!Jane

I tend to do Delia's Fisherman's Pie... but I jazz it up with the juice of a lemon, plenty of capers (can't remember if they're in the recipe or not) and some frozen prawns. My TV is broken!

Cullen Skink.
Scottish fish soup....absolutely GORGEOUS
The name of this rich, tasty soup comes from the fishing village of Cullen, in Morayshire. "Skink" is a soup made originally from a shin of beef. But in this case, the main ingredient is smoked haddock.Ingredients:
A large smoked or unsmoked haddock or any white fish (undyed) 2lb
1 medium onion, finely chopped.
1½ pints (900ml) milk
2 tablespoons butter
8 oz mashed potato
Salt and pepper
1 bay leaf
Chopped parsley
Water
Cream
Triangles of toast (as an accompaniment)
Method
Cover the smoked haddock with water, in a shallow pan, skin side down. Add a fish stock cube if a stronger taste required. Bring to the boil and simmer for 4/5 minutes, turning once. Take the haddock from the pan and remove the skin and any bones. Break up the fish into flakes, return to the stock and add the chopped onion, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Simmer for another 15 minutes. Strain, remove the bay leaf but retain the stock and fish. Add the milk to the fish stock and bring back to the boil. Add enough mashed potato to create the consistency you prefer (don't be afraid to make it rich and thick!). Add the fish and reheat. Check for seasoning. Just before serving, add the butter in small pieces so that it runs through the soup, and add a generous swirl of double cream.
Serve with chopped parsley on top, accompanied by triangles of toast.Life.
