Thank you. Only problem is I don't have cornflour! Still I suppose if I buy a box it will be there for future use so will be money saving and healthier in the long run.

Thank you for all the help :-)

Not sure about the calorific content but I make my cheese sauce with white wine so no butter in it and only 1 dessert spoon of flour?
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

Cornflour is one of the things in my storecupboard that I panic if I run out of it. :o If you buy a box I don't think it will be a waste of money once you get into the way of using it to thicken things :D Try to buy value or smartprice as I have never noticed any difference between them and the branded cornflours.

I second the recommendation for cornflour. It's wonderful stuff - just don't touch it cos it is squeaky on the fingers and will make you cringe.

For a more healthy recipe, BBC Good Food did a series where they did "makeovers" on popular recipes. I recall lasagna was one: try looking on the website for what they suggested.

I use creme fresh and a little bit of low fat cheese in mine.

I've had a look and can't see anything on that website, but they do have about a million recipes for Lasagne :rotfl: maybe we could start a food makeover thread on here?

Great website though, will be having a look on there for other things to make and freeze icon7.gif

I am currently following the Slimming World diet and when I make lasagna I use lean mince - loads of veg and instead of white sauce I grate low fat cheese over the top 5 mins before end of cooking. I think low fat cheese tastes awful raw but is fine when melted. xcx

Definitely loads of xtra veg in meat sauce (carrots, courgettes, mushrooms, onions etc) and when you've browned off the mince, drain it through a sieve and pour boling water over to remove any fat.
  • I add a layer of spinach to it, really tasty! :D

The only problem with using quorn is the packet says not to refreeze which is the only reason I don't bulk cook with it.
