who do i write to?

hi all,dont know who to write to regardind mis-sold endowment.
had a policy with legal and general,this was taken out using an independant financial advisor from mayfair mortgage consultants.The mortgage was with alliance and leicester.we didnt really understand what it was all about(daft i know)i remember getting letters to say there would be a shortfall so we cashed them in in 2005.dont have any of the paperwork so dont have details of policy numbers etc.
where do we start? who do we complain to?

Start with Legal and general, they should be able to tell you the name of the person/ organisation that arranged the policy as well as the policy numbers and dates etc.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I would do it quick though - you may find that your complaint is timebound, I understand that under FOS rules you have 3 years from the date at which you became aware of the problem (i.e. the date of your first "red letter") to make a complaint - otherwise the FOS, under its rules, cannot pick up on your behalf.0
