Student hardship fund

Hi
I am returing to my university course soon and I am thinking of applying to the hardship fund, do I have to tell the OR about this money, if I get it, and if so will he take some or all of it.
Any advice gratefully received

Bumping this in the hope that someone knows the answer!
I received £1800 from my Uni's hardship fund last October (pre BR) and hope that I'll be eligible for a similar amount next semester but don't want to apply if the trustee's going to make off with it all.

STUDENT hardship in Scotland has reached a "critical" level as universities run out of crisis funds to help those struggling to find enough money to continue their courses.
With bank loans drying up and a shortage of part-time jobs, more students are calling on the emergency grants, known as discretionary funds, to survive the economic downturn.

One university's hardship fund has run out twice during this academic year, with priority now being given to those who are showing better academic performance. The situation is compounded by the fact that students' parents – often the last resort in times of financial crisis – are themselves struggling to help as the downturn bites.

I am a mature student and a single parent. I was working part time when I started my degree but my employers started getting funny about my hours so I left. I applied to the discretionary fund hoping for a few hundred quid to tide me over and was blown away when I received my award. It should be noted that I know of other students who have received far more. I do believe that preference goes to self supporting students and parents. There is quite an extensive application form to fill in too, but nothing us BRs aren't used to!! :rotfl:

When I was a student I applied to the fund. At the time I had my student loan but not a lot else (except debt). They still gave me £800, even though my circumstances were not that desperate. We were all advised by our tutors to apply as the worst they could say was no!
