Enter the amount remaining and the remaining term to see "what's left"

  • just noticed a funny thing, I put a random 20 quid extra in and it gave me the saving. I then doubled it to 40 then doubled it to 80 and each time the amount saved was LESS than doubled. If that makes sense.

Was wondering if I should pay 80 off each part of my mortgage, it is three parts, instead of the 250 I was planning on paying off one part. Will this be a very clever trick or have I done something wrong?
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
  • just figured out we need to overpay £8000 a month to finish mortgage in 1 year! wow - better get saving then as haven't managed to overpay a penny yet!!
  • Hi All

Ive just posted this on the Mortgage forum as that's where I mostly frequent, but I thought it might be worth posting my Excel mortgage calculator here too seeing as this is a thread full of them, as it does do several things that some/most of the others don't seem to take into account, such as
    • Interest only / capital repayment mortgages with option to part pay
    • Offset mortgages, including average offset current account balance
    • Calculation when offset pot could pay off the mortgage remainder.
    • Monthly and one off overpayments / offset payments
    • Change of rates after introductory period expires
    • Ad-hoc rate changes for variable/tracker mortgages
    • Additional borrowing at any time
    • A few pretty graphs :)

  • Hi

Does anyone have a good tracker mortgage calculator for making repayments and keeping a track of my payments as interest rates change?

    Thanks
  • Have you looked at my spreadsheet above, you can edit the interest rates for each month rather than just setting it at the start.

Excellent mate. By far the best out there.

Just what I need, however, how do I unprotect the sheet to put in my ad-hoc interest rate etc.

You need Excel 2002 or newer, I suspect you've got Excel 2000 or earlier, or are using open office? The way it's written the cells you need to edit are editable in Excel 2002 or newer whilst the rest of the cells are protected, but it seems the old version of Excel etc doesn't support that, it just protects the whole sheet and ignores the exceptions Ive put in to allow certain editable cells. :(

When I get time I'll see if I can do a "creaky old Excel" compatible version :D
