Selling online?

Hi there

Im a SAHM and have dressmaking and crafting hobbies. Im thinking about selling my products online and was wondering if anyone could give advice on if its worth buying a domain and having my own website or trying to sell through ETSY or Ebay?

I dont have a lot of money and I use second hand materials so need to think of a way to sell this in a "green" and on trend way!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Amy

the main problem with your own web site is getting the "ranking" so you come out highest on a search, I'd test the water on ebay to see what response you get

If you have a website it's like opening a shop in the middle of a field. You won't get passing trade - you will need to promote it and that takes money.

Why not try craft fairs and markets (as well as ebay or etsy) so that you can promote and sell at the same time.

There is a new site called https://www.folksy.com which is a like a UK etsy. It's been featured in a few magazines and there is a forum on there too and there are a lot of the sellers on it.

There is also Misi.co.uk (make it sell it) where you can sell, it hasn't got a huge audience at the min but seems to be growing. I started on there last month and have had a couple of sales. I have found that by doing local markets etc I have gained enough interest to build a website, I am just waiting for some cards to hand out next time I am there. Good Luck!! x:beer:

  • Thanks for your replys, I think I'll take your advice and go for the online auctions.
