Hi folks,
We've been looking at jobs and property in Scarborough lately. We've been living just north of London for awhile, and we have the entire cheap-grocery rounds down to a T, but we're nervous about starting over!
Anyone have any tips on money-saving in Scarborough? The best places/times for reduced groceries, charity shops, etc? It would be really helpful - thank you.

I live in Scarborough
We have several large stores. Tesco's in Westood, near station. Morrison's outer town on A64 main road from York to Scarborough. Sainsbury's close to Tesco's (better car park)
There are plenty of charity shops, but I really dont use them. I do donate to them, like St. Catherines' hospice on Falsgrave road close to Sainsburys
We have Heron store which is in town centre (bottom of town) which is a cheap shop for frozen foods and other goods not a very large store but is like Home bargains only food mainly but simiarly cheap prices as Home bargains
Oh Boyes store is a cheap shop close to Heron at bottom of town, and wilkinsons in town centre, large store (use to be Tesco's)
On job front like else where we lost many jobs. Wards (kingspan) out of town just announced lots of job cuts, and Scarborough Building society too. We do have a large business park near Morrisons that has just been built.
Also town centre has plenty of bars, a little lively at weekends. isnt every town?but Scarborough is a safe place compared with many places, and Yorkshire folks as a whole are friendly. Lovely town and nice beaches with new investment over recent years, new mariner in harbour and coastal defences on marine drive. Oh and free wireless on sandside near beach0 -
Thanks, Poppy.
No matter how bad the job situation up there seems, I've already discovered that it's far better than where we are - that's part of the reason we're leaving!
I didn't know about wireless on the beach... that's a handy thing.Thank you.
