Basics Toilet Cleaner, is it up to the job?

Options
As Martin is always banging on about dropping down a brand or two in the supermarket, I thought I'd try the Sainsbury's Basics toilet cleaner. I think the bottle only cost about 40p.

Ingredients: disinfectant, perfume and formaldehyde.

Do you think it does a good enough job? What's missing compared to the more expensive brands?

The only thing I have noticed is that is doesn't smell as fragrant.

I must admit that I haven't used the basics cleaner, but I've been using the eco-cleaners as much as possible. Similar principle, I guess they are OK but don't give a DEEP clean so around once a month I use something stronger with a limescale remover and that gets off anything which is building up. Result clean loo but overall use of less chemicals in my case and less money in your case !

Value bleach is really cheap and will kill germs just as well but not terribly emviromentally friendly, won't remove limescale either.

  • I use the basics toilet cleaner, (it's green) and find it is ok.

It cleans away stains, but obviously it does not tackle limescale.

    Smells nice though :)

    Hi,
I've had to switch to the value range loo cleaner. I use Asda or Tesco and find that they do a good enough job of basic cleaning. Don't like using bleach and other strong detergents for various reasons so tried a suggestion of cheap coke to give the loo a deep clean. Sounds odd maybe but i found it to work. Empty the loo of water first then fill with coke and leave to work it's magic. Don't know how effective it would be on old limescale as the toilets i use it on are all fairly new but got to be worth a go. Read something on a thread here earlier about something in cheap coke that attacks limescale so maybe not so daft after all.
Only thing that worries me is what it does to those who drink it!! :rotfl:
