  • It's up to you what you do but I really would try someone like CCCS first. Then it will take more of the burden off you.
tell them to stop ringing all the time as well!
Okay, I am just going to say something about that. Yes, you can write but no they will not stop phoning you. Just I had to warn you of that from the start. I only say that because Capital One are one of the hardest to deal with. But don't let that put you off, just to let you know from the start of what you will face from them. And do not let it put you down.

Now, the other thing here. Potentially. Is that you may even be able to claim some of those charges back on your account. And use those towards paying it off. That is something else some people do. It's a lengthy process, one which I have not done myself, but others have. It's mostly the same as with the bank charges. Similar process. I am not so sure about the CCA because you've just really only got the card so they are likely to have an agreement. But ... if you can remember how you applied for the card, what you filled in? I will be going in a second so just somethings I thought of to ask you which may help you ultimately.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

yeah, just looking through the forums now, there are people far worse off than me,

They may be worse off than you now......but I can assure you that they all started off just like you!

If you pay this card off now and learn your lesson then it will have been a relatively cheap but important lesson to learn. Good luck paying it back. Try offering to get rid of it within 6 months or so.

  • Could you tighten your belt with your living expenses for a while until it's repaid, a couple of months of not going out would be well worth not having the awful feeling of debt hanging over you for longer.

And as has been said before, please learn from this while you are still young. Debt is not a nice place to be!

  • thanks so much for all the replies :)

Knowing that other people are in the same situation kind of takes the weight off a little, i am currently typing the letters out to debitas now.

I want it gone as quick as possible, and after all of this i doubt i will ever touch a credit card, infact any type of credit again.

    Its just not worth it.

I am going to cut back until this is all sorted, the sooner the better, i'm a bit off with giving my card details over the phone, but don't have a cheque book, so do not really have a choice =/

Do not give them your card details.

First letter to send them is the Telephone Harrassment letter. It does work.
    Dear Sir/Madam

    Harassment By Telephone

Account number: *put what is appropriate*

I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls and voice texts that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.
I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls.
I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.
I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.
Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded.

    Yours faithfully,
