Is there anything else I really need?

Ok so fiance and I have decided to get married next February and go ahead and book things. I've never been fussed for a big day and all that OH wants is a drink at the end of the day!

We plan to have registry office wedding at 4pm and then book function room at hotel with buffet served at around 7pm instead of a formal sit down meal.

We are just having close family to ceremony, parents, brothers, sisters and our 3 children, then inviting everyone to the hotel from 6pm onwards.

We were just going to drive to registrars then on to hotel, saving paying to hire cars, and just ask guests to take some pics with their digital cameras and give us a copy on disk. I also thought I'd manage without flowers or table decorations as not having a formal "do" more a party at night.

Will hire/buy dresses for me and daughter, and hire kilt outfits for OH and 2 boys.

So costs are:
Registrar £180
Hotel £200 room hire and £8 per head buffet
DJ/band £200-£300
Invites and thank you cards
And whatever dresses and kilts cost to hire

We will put a note in with invites saying that its informal and no need for gifts, just to come along and join us for a drink and bit to eat.

Have I missed anything important? Is it reasonable for family at ceremony to wait until 7 to be fed?

Any comments very welcome I'm just starting to plan things now and finding it all very scary

Congratulations. You would probably need to give them something because if your wedding is at 4pm (registry office weddings are fairly quick) what do they do for the next 3 hours? Unless you offer them some drinks and canapes before the buffet is served.
  • My wedding is at the same time as yours, and we'll probably be eating at around the same time. I didn't want people to be starving at 7pm (had visions of a mad dash to the buffet), so I'm sticking some bowls of crisps/olives on the tables. It's not much, but it will only cost about five pounds, and people can like it or go hungry! If you're at a hotel, might be worth putting some bar snacks or something similar on the tables? Okay, so it's not canapes and cocktails, but you won't have screamy kids and starving adults sitting around before the buffet!

Hadn't thought about that, will look into snacks or canapes, the cheaper the better!

    Congratulations! ;)

Could you change the food time to 6 o'clock, it seems like a long wait and kiddies will be hungry?

Have you got the photos sorted?

Why didn't I think of having food at 6? Makes perfect sense! (Thanks Barney's mum :D )

We weren't going to bother with professional photos, we have a few family members who're quite handy with a camera so will just ask them to take pics and send us copies. As long as we have a half decent pic to go in frame in bedroom I'm happy, not fussed about a wedding album.

Have just remembered will need to get wedding rings too :o

I think the buffet at 7 will be fine. :)

Your wedding is at 4, but that doesn't mean you will be done at 4 so nobody will have to wait 3 hours at all.

Don't worry about little ones going hungry either - I'm sure they will have had something to eat before they attend a wedding at 4pm!

If the hotel bar will be open, your guests can get refreshments there until 7pm.
