Part Time Data Entry - No Asking For Money But...

I recently apply for a part-time data entry position I saw advertised on Gumtree. I received an e-mail from them soon after which said
Hi,

Thank you for showing an interest in the part-time data entry vacancy advertised on Gumtree.

I am the HR executive for Recotti, an online marketing company which mainly focuses on promoting products, offers and services aimed towards women, on behalf of our clients. However, we also promote other offers as well if we think they are a good fit for our company.

You will be responsible for inputting customer details onto our system. These are customers who enter our clients competitions, apply for their products etc via our offline channels, such as marketing stands in shopping precints and larger department stores.

I am eager to see what you can do for us, but in addition to sending your CV, I want you to complete our short, 5-second, data entry test. It will instantly help us to eliminate the really unsuitable candidates immediately.

THE 5 SECOND DATA ENTRY TEST

It's really easy and will literally take you five seconds to complete!

The links you need are all included in this email and full instructions on what we need you to do can be found on the page below:

http://www.recotti.com/1/ptde-5sec.php

The promotional website which we need you to complete the 5 second test on can be accessed via the link below:

http://www.recotti.com/1/url/1.php

If you completed all the required fields and your details are successfully registered on our server, I will be able to review your submission as soon as possible.

Please ensure you follow the instructions carefully and complete ALL stages of the registration process otherwise I will not receive your application.

I need you to complete the 5 second test because we get a LOT of unsuitable candidates and waste a lot of time in terms of interviewing, training etc. I'd rather they were weeded out at this stage.

I look forward to seeing what you can do and look forward to speaking with you very soon.
Now following the first link it gies you instructions to follow and the first is a '5 second accuracy test' which involves
In the email you received from us, there will be a link to one of our customsed promotional websites. Click it, and when the page loads, enter your email address accurately and the click the "continue" or "submit" button. b. A pop up page will appear which is full of offers. We need you to count how many offers are present on this page and enter that number into the box below:
The particular link in my e-mail took me to a website which was a typical pop-up type. You know enter your e-mail and you'll get a thousand spam e-mails. So obviously I haven't done this.
The next step is to then upload your CV and then submit.
I haven't completed this yet because to be honest it looks rather dodgy - are they just getting paid to get people to sign-up to their affiliates e-mail systems?
I ignored it and then today I receieved another e-mail 'I emailed you a few days ago after you inquired about the data entry vacancy advertised on Gumtree. In case you didn't receive it, here is the information again.'
Scam or not a scam?

Comments

  • In my opinion, its probably a scam.
I know there is one going round facebook at the moment, and you get paid for referring other people to complete the surveys. Id guess this is the same thing...

Someone more in the know will probably answer soon, though.
    Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:
  • Yes, this is a scam, very dodgy. They are basically tricking people into offers via their affiliate links to earn commissions. A whois on the domain name throws up red flags:
