Voluntary maintenance payments and CSA

One of my partners children has recently been sacked from his job. He is only 16 and we only see him at birthdays, christmas etc. We have only found out he no longer has a job through another of his children who we see regularly.

The mother will not speak to or update my partner on any matters and it is unfair on the child we see regularly, to ask them questions.

My partner currently pays CSA for the other child and would like to offer to pay for the child who is no longer employed, however, if the child gets college course/connexions and the mother applies to CSA and they take ages to do an assessment will any voluntary payment be classed as CSA paid.

If you know the bank details of your partners ex, you could set up a standing order.
Mark the payments sent from the account as " Child support payments to xxxx (child's name)".

That way if your partner does get assessed, you can show the voluntary contributions that have been made.

quote]Good advice. I would just add; mark the standing order as "Child support payment to "PWC's name" for "Child's name". This should give the CSA no grounds to dispute that this is indeed a maintenance payment & not a gift.

Just wanted to say, I think your partner sounds lovely, I really admire him for taking his parental responsibilities so seriously and not thinking "hurrah, 16th B'day = no CSA!"

 Cheers to both of you :T
