In the FAQ section on the Maplin page some of the questions that have been asked have been answered incorrectly. If you have a question about what this machine does I'd be happy to actually test it on my one for you folks.
For example:
It WILL play in slow motion.
It DOES edit. (very well in my opinion)
It DOES NOT record onto - format discs but will play them.
It WILL remove or hide ad breaks in recordings.
It CAN be connected to your hi-fi to get stereo sound through your speakers.
It can connect to digital camcorders via Firewire connection on the front.
It's a pitty that someone at Maplin is giving out false or misleading info.
This product has really impressed me. Especially for such a bargain price.
Hope to be of help, WIlf.Keep smiling!0 -
I also went for the Maplins Yamada and am impressed by the machine and the service. Delivery was within 48 hours of order, free , and the website was unglamorous but easy to navigate. I just wanted hdd because I can never remember what I recorded on what tape!0

Indeed it can (question has already been answered), but I wouldn't recommend it, as it's a very inconvenient solution. With a built-in Freeview tuner you get the electronic programme guide which allows you simply to click on a programme name to record it. With a separate tuner you not only have to fiddle about with times and dates, just like with an old VHS, but you have to do this on TWO boxes to make sure the correct programme is being recorded. If you are planning to use this for time-shifting, I'd strongly recommend you wait or spend more for a Freeview model.
The other disadvantage of using a separate Freeview box is that the picture quality will be compromised, because you will be coding the signals twice, and, moreover, the coder inside the DVD recorder will not be very sophisticated.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
