I am perplexed about the following

"the council are evicting her for not paying back the extra money that housing benefit have been giving her, even though she was told that she updated the housing benefit folks that her situation has changed as she is working - they of course didn't reflect this on the system and is now facing the eviction."

The question of eviction will not be taken by the HB section of the council. The question of eviction proceedings will be the Rent section. It looks as though your girlfriend has been issued with eviction proceedings for non-payment of rent, but at the same time she has been overpaid housing benefit for some reason and the HB section are asking for this back. I think that you will find that these are two separate issues and the eviction proceedings are not for the reason you've stated.

Sigh . . I hate to be rude, but there really is one born every minute.

Let's hope the scammers in the US don't sell her name to the scammers in Nigeria, otherwise your gf's email is going to be very very full.

It's likely to happen. They do trade gullible recipients' names between themselves.

Now, she wouldn't be able to get a loan because of the credit rating she has, in addition for her low income (she works @ the NHS as a nurse),

Nurses do not have a low income.

uh they do! she does.... 15K/year - thats pretty low and given that they are taxing her alot doesnt help either.

look, i came here for some advice about the scam - thats all. nothing else thank-you very much. I don't go around taking the mikey out of you or anything of the sort therefore i dont expect abuse back or anything. it's fairly simple.

if you have a problem, deal with it but dont go coming over here and hiding behind a computer trying to make out you are better or think you can give abuse. jeez.... its people like you that make it worse for no reason at all.

if you want to contribute then stick to the original question otherwise...move along.

    I believe 25 -30k. with OT etc.
I think there are things the OPs other half is not telling him. I would not have thought you would generaly get HB on that sort of salary.

WU money transfers are not traceable. Same goes for MoneyGram or any other similar money transfer service. They're fine if your sending money to your granny on holiday in South America who has just lost all her money and traveller's cheques, but they should never be used to send money to anyone you don't know or have never met, and certainly NEVER for any business transactions. Your OH has learnt the hard way, I'm afraid. Please post as many details as you can about these scammers - website addresses, email addresses, names used (probably not their real names), so other people who may search the web for them can find them.

If your OH is only on £15k as a nurse then she isn't working full time. A newly qualified nurse starts on over £19k per annum if working full time - and that isn't taking unsocial allowances into it either.

Regardless of the loan issue which is probably best chalked down to unfortunate experience as I doubt the police will be able to do anything. The CPS would need so much evidence to prosecute.

According to the NHS website £15,000.00 for nurse seems about right

A newly qualified nurse would be at the bottom of band 5 (Point 17 of the AFC scale ) making her earnings £20,225 basic.
