Whilst at work this afternoon (in a bank!!)a customer came in moaning about charges but once he decided he wasnt going to do anything he went on to inform us tellers that you can contact your loacal tax office and reclaim tax overpayments!! I didnt believe him but he said he did it and got back over £1000 !!!!!! I was shocked to say the least but he says he pays his tax at the correct rates as far as he was concerned but hey up theres a nice wee refund for him. The fellar at the tax office told him dont ask dont get! lets all start asking we can only be told no!

Yes, but there again you can always get a tax refund if your tax code, say, is set to the zero. It's a long while since I had one of those, but I was able to apply quite easily, get it back. Nice little sum of around £800 overpaid tax at the time. Overpaid tax for around 4 months. I wasn't gonna argue was I?
:D Because my then employer put me on emergency tax code even when they'd had receipt of a P45. Mistakes etc. Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -

To be fair to the OP, I used to work 2 jobs and occasionally cover somewhere else, so had 3 P60s. I used to pay on PAYE and one year I sent copies of all 3 P60s to the local tax office with a cover letter containing the words "Please investigate my tax liability". A few weeks later I got a £500 cheque in the form of a rebate. I did this for 3 more years and ended up with £300 a year, then the 4th year, I had changed jobs and it turned out I owed them £300. I havent done it since. I am now working but also registered self employed with a part time business, so have an accountant do it all for me. Its always worth a go, especially if you have changed jobs or done more than one job in the tax year.
If I hadnt asked for this money, I would have never got it.0 -
i thought i was gonna get a public beating then! just kidding.0
