can i just add to all of this I think its ridiculous that people from "disadvantaged backgrounds" ie on jobseekers or income support get first dibs on nursery places. All kids deserve a place and I don't see why mine should be discriminated against because we work! (but thats just my view!)
I fully agree, its something that really hacked me off when filling in the application form this year and I've resisted posting about it, but since you're brought the topic up.....lol!!! its an absolute disgrace that they get priorityNorn Iron Club Member #64

i know i mean all kids should be equally entitled to a free nursery place. I know i don't have to worry for a few years, but my sister went through the process last year and its actually quite stressful, another thing I thought silly was that kids whose birthdays were july and august got priority - but kids whose birthdays are the rest of the year can only attend nursery that one year as well. Its all a bit daft.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

well that bit I can explain lol, if you read my earlier posts about my son not getting nursery last year because he is an August baby and won't be going to school until he's 5, he missed out on Nursery in September past because all babies up to June starting primary this September got priority, so July/August babies get priority for nursery because if they didn't and didn't make the cut for the nursery they could end up going to primary without ever having had a free place in nursery...................however again August babaies with parents on benefits get priority over August babies whose parents work.................I think I better get off my soapbox now lolNorn Iron Club Member #64

thanks Seatzie you know my brain just couldnt process that one!! I'm just wondering then had your son got into nursery when he was 3 would you have been entitield to 2 years free nursery places?
I guess its a good thing and a bad thing - its an extra year for you having him at home but then he'll be far more able and ready than the other younger kids when he eventually gets to school. My LO's birthday is end of May so there would be 9 months between him and someone who's birthday is in August - and at age 4/5 thats a huge developmental gap.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

yeah technically there are kids born in july/august who get 2 years at nursery if there is a low "birth rate" for that year, so if there are spaces available they will allow kids to get 2 years - downside of him being at home is he's busting to learn new things and be out with kids, so we got him into a Church play School couple of mornings a week and fingers crossed he'll get the nursery we want in SeptemberNorn Iron Club Member #64
