Water Bills

Hello,

I've just had my water bill for the coming year and I'm surprised at the price. As it turns out I'm paying more than people (families) living in large 3 & 4 bed detatched houses, when I'm alone in a small ex council semi - which I cant even live in yet as I'm renovating it.

Is there anything I can do appeal against this?

thanks,

If you live alone, ask to have a water meter fitted, that should drasticly reduce your future bills.
I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.

i live in a converted house but the water board didn't know this so tried to chrge me for 4 bed house rather than 2 bed flat. One phone call sorted it out, have you tried to give em a ring?

Get a water meter fitted. You'll save loads with just one person living there.

ohnyeah, 1 2nd the meter. The water company's standard charge for 2 people is £26pm, but after 8 months we were £100 in credit!! lol (We are very serious about minimising water usage!)

I'm paying just short of £50 a month for just the water, my all in bill is £510 for the year. I'll give them a ring tommorrow.
Thanks for suggestions - I'm resisting a water meter currently - two reasons -
(the catch 22 dilema) Its vital for life and cleanliness and I Dont believe that water should be metered - and that's not because I'm a wasteful person with water, I'm not - I dont leave taps on when clean teeth etc, I collect rain water, only flush when necessary etc.

2ndly as the house is been renovated, sometimes (when I've just had enough) It can be a few days between visits to check all ok and to do somemore work, and worried if I get a leek that it'll cost me a fortune if I dont discover it!!

But will rethink the meter situation once I've finished the work.

Seriously, you will save SO MUCH on a meter. You are paying £50 a month non metered... I am paying £15 a month on a meter for 2 people...

My mum had a leak on her meter and when they realised they sent someone to check (her usage was the equivalent of a small factory, allegedly!) and my mum wasn't liable for any of the bill, only the standard (so unmetered) equivalent... don't worry!

I live in a four bedroom detached house with one teenager.
My water bill metered for the last twelve months was under £100. I'm in rate band E and I dread to think what that would cost me now. It was nearly £400 when I got my meter fitted.
