Hi
I am looking to buy a web cam, but dont have a clue what I should be looking for spec wise. They have different resolutions and im really not techie!
I want one with a microphone, and dont want to pay to much although want a fairly decent one. Its so my family can see my baby daughter as they live far away.
Many Thanks in advacne for your help.

I got an excellent one on a Buy-it-Now auction - £8.78 delivered, and it arrived in 48 hours.
It has a laptop clip and a weighted base, with LEDs and a built in microphone. If you search on "laptop webcam" you should find it.

play.com has a game (camgoo) for £7.99 and it include a pretty decent phillips webcam!
great price and you get a fun game as well
only this is that it doesnt have an inbuilt mic, but then again it would be best to buy a desktop mic (but a relatively decent one - not one from the pound shop
)
i got a good one from ebuyer for approx £3. but you should be able to find them at similar prices elsewhere. logitech are a good make for microphones
cheers

argos sell microphones at a cheap price ( think there about £5/£6?)
though........a childs toy microphone works in pcs! ( found out when my friends child plugged theres into there pc and it worked!.they were talking to a friend in australia through MSN messenger!!)
Have seen webcams buy one get one free at a lot of places, sure argos do this, and only between £9.99 and £19.99 depending on spec required)
Keep meaning to buy some myself, one for me, and send the free one to my sister..lovely to talk on the phone, buts not the same as being able to actually see her!
Will hunt around and post back when I find what it is that I know is out there somewhere! lol
have you tried dixons? It'd be either there or Argos, or woolworths that Ive seen them cheap, we dont have any other electrical stores where i live! (were in the dark ages here it seems! lol) another possibility could be Wilkos, (theyve only just opened up in our town......but its not a product that I look at in detail Im afraid.know Ive seen it in ONE of these shops though!)
Oh.and I think its right to say that......the higher the resolution, the better the picture quality?? Someone correct me if thats wrong in regards to webcams, know it appplies to digi cameras!Tatts :hello: :kisses2:0 -
If you have a Sony Playstation with an Eye Toy you don't need to buy a camera at all. My daughter's eye toy camera works really well on my PC. I just googled for "eye toy usb driver" and got the drivers. The early eye toy cameras (black rectangular shaped) are actually made by D-Link and have an integral microphone. Perfect for Skype video calls.

You do not need to spend a fortune, as you will be limited by the net connection you and who you talk to have.
You will not be able to get real time video(25fps) over MSN and broadbnd.
Only worth buying higher resoloution cameras if you want to use for other purpose, ie taking photo's or video clips to send seperatly.0
