Tax Back?

I am hoping that I am posting this in the right place.

I was wondering if you think I will get some tax back.

Under a tax year I got gross salary 4757 pound,
I paid 732.42 in tax,
the rest of the year I had jobseekers allowance, 60 a week.

I think there was six weeks during that year that I had no income.

Thanks for any suggestions

How many weeks did you get Jobseekers for. We need to know that to calculate your total income in that year and hence how much tax you would be liable for.

    Total 6437 less tax free allowance 6035 = 402@20% = £80.40
    Tax paid 732.42
    Repayment 652.02
You will need to send your P60 to your tax office once you receive it in April.

Whilst at work this afternoon (in a bank!!)a customer came in moaning about charges but once he decided he wasnt going to do anything he went on to inform us tellers that you can contact your loacal tax office and reclaim tax overpayments!! I didnt believe him but he said he did it and got back over £1000 !!!!!! I was shocked to say the least but he says he pays his tax at the correct rates as far as he was concerned but hey up theres a nice wee refund for him. The fellar at the tax office told him dont ask dont get! lets all start asking we can only be told no!

Beebop, what you say is absolutely true, but I believe that true moneysaving is making sure you don't overpay tax in the first place! I hope everyone on these boards will make a New Tax Year's resolution to make sure they are all on the correct code number throughout the year, so they don't have to go through the fuss of making repayment claims at the end of the year!
