... and social fund loans (and similar) are not subject to the 6 or 5 year statute barring. They can be reclaimed at any time.

They can't go to court after 6 years but they can take them from any future benefit.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

i dont think goverment money ie social securiy/tax /council tax etc ever gets statute barred and has to be repaid if you are working now they will apply for an attachment of earnings to your salary statute barring only applies to connsumer credit agreements that you sighn not social fund loans.

In November 2003 I received a social fund loan from the DWP for £80. I believed that it was to be deducted from my benifits while I was unemployed.

Today (12/3/2009) I received a demand from them for repayment of this money. Is this correct or is there a date limit outside of 5 years when I would not be liable? :eek:This bit does seem like a get out of paying

I owed less than £1 (one pound) and they took it 12 years later from benefits!!!! (I paid back by installments but missed the shrapnel element)

It never goes away, if you can't pay in one go you can come to an arrangement.

    This is correct.

But I should just point out that the six-year period starts to run from when the debt was last acknowledged either by a payment or in writing.

So this debt will not necessarily become statute barred in November 2009.
