Family and Money

Right,

I havent been on here for ages, but now find myself in a right pickle. so here goes:

Last year i borrowed some money from my other halfs family member with out my other half knowing, as im sure he would have hit the roof. Now i have been paying it back at a rate of £100 a month, all is fine. Now the family member has text me this week to say they want the other x amount i owe them by TODAY (thursday) and if i didnt give them the money they would tell my other half about it. Now i need some help, i can afford to give them another £100 like normal but thats it, they want another £400. I feel like i dont want to go home tonight.

So here is my dilemma, do i go home and tell the other half what a pickle i have got myself into, and take the wrath, and hope he doesnt through me out or tell me to p""" off or tell the other family member to go ahead and tell my other half about me borrowing the money but say thats all i have and its low of them to blackmail me in the process, i scared of doing that as i dont know how they would react. What would you do? Help!!!:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Personally, I'd be the one to tell your OH, or this other person will probably hold it over you well into the future, even when re-paid.

I don't really know what to say except honesty is usually the best policy.

The person you owe the money to knows they have 'something over you' if you do not tell your OH, and there is no telling what other kinds of things they'll do to blackmail you. I'd say your best bet is to be brave, tell your OH, sure he will probably go mad to start with, but then at least there are two of you against one so to speak, so if you let the lender know you have already told your OH he/she can't use that against you.

If it were me, I would get in there first. It's always going to be better coming from you than from them. At the end of the day, it is only £400 left which is not a massive amount.

And then make a promise to have no more secrets. If my OH did this to me, it would be the dishonesty of the situation that hurt me more than the situation itself. Relationships are based on trust. Without that, you don't have a relationship.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

I think you should speak to your other half & explain to him what you did & why, also tell him how you are dealing with the problem. I would also let him know what the family member said, i'm sure if you explain why you had to borrow the money he would understand. The truth is alway best. Good luck.

    oh honey, good luck!!!

Honesty is definitely the best way to go (speaking from experience!!)

A couple of years ago, I VERY STUPIDLY found myself hooked on online bingo - DH knew I was doing it, but had NO idea how much I was spending. I was lumping it all on a credit card thinking "I'll win it back". YES I WAS STOOOPID!! But it got to the stage where I wasnt sleeping coz I was so worried about telling him, in the end I wrote it all down and left it for him to read whilst I hid in the bathroom......

He was brilliant, yes angry at first, and sad I think that I had got into that state, but it was so much easier once I had told him!! I have never touched bingo or gambling sites since!!!
