Free entry to Tatton Park, Knutsford, Cheshire

On Saturday 28th March.

http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/0425C9B9-5A59-4561-A49B-3DF16A277A48/0/chairman_tatton_park.doc

It appears on the Cheshire Council homepage too: http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/

Unusually it is free car parking AND free admission to all the attractions. Usually it's one or the other as car parking and park adminstration is by Cheshire County Council and the Estate is managed by National Trust.

The park is signposted from J19 M6 and J8 M56. Nearest railway station: Knutsford 0.25 miles from park entrance, 2 miles from Estate.

Thanks, have passed this on to my sister who has been wanting to go as her daughter's married name is Tatton.

Ooh, thanks - that's really worth it, as since the council took over the place, the charge for parking increased to about £6. Suspect it'll be quite busy, but I haven't been round the hall in ages, so will be a good day out. :)

I don't think the council takeover of the park is anything recent. It must be about 20 years ago when I was hearing of complaints from National Trust members that they weren't getting free parking at Tatton Park and the National Trust's response was that without council funding the park would be closed.

This is to commemorate 120 years of Cheshire County Council which will cease to exist and be replaced on 1st April by 'Cheshire West and Chester' and 'Cheshire East' Unitary Authorities costing a snip of £50m (and increasing) to change over, apparently the Government's idea of saving money.

Thanks very much thats brilliant :T
  • Originally, it was for Cheshire employees. We were told that they had thought of a free day at Tatton but decided the weather would not be good in March, so instead we were invited to a ceremony at Chester cathedral on the Sunday. They received so many complaints that they offered this free day too!
