Can I Claim Car Expenses?
Comments
-
it's as simple as that
No it's not.
You MUST make sure you are insured to drive when accepting money from other people.
You MAY find your policy allows this but don't take a chance as you risk - prosecution, your car being crushed and a claim not being paid if you need to make a claim.
Not really work risking it for the sake of a phone call is it??0 -
HMRC rules for the scheme make it clear that the claimant does not have to own the vehicle. The only stipulation is that they must meet the running costs.

The rules are silent on the question of who drives.
I can’t see a problem with the OP’s husband claiming the standard 40ppm/25ppm.0 -
Thank you all for the advice. Will give my insurance company a quick call and see what they have to say on the subject. I will start billing them monthly for costs and hopefully their tax bill will be reduced.Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

OMG - hun, just keep the receipts and make the standard maximum claim for petrol, driving services and the like that you are entitled to - cos you are probably doing at least that anyway. use an account that will understand how to process your expenses effiectiently.

Does the Revenue allow expenses for daily commuting? As far as I understand it, if the journey is to and from a fixed place of work then the expense is NOT allowable.0

OP states CIS 'jobs' so i gather it is not a fixed place of work so she is fine.0
