Failed DD charge

Not sure if this is the right area for this.
I had a DD fail on me today, which i knew was going to happen, but my bank have charged me the £35 fee automatically. This has caused me to go over my overdraft allowance.
I was under the impression that they had to write and inform you of any charges before deducting the money and that they were not alowed to add a charge on if it was to push me into an unarranged overdraft.
Can some one confirm this for me before i phone them up?

Hmm, not sure if anything's changed re this since the court case, luckily for me it's been a few years since I was in this situation but back then I never had warning of bank charges, they just took them, and on DD day this could be up to £100 at a time! I would try calling the bank, explaining the situation and asking nicely if they can refund/allow temp o/d. . . . ? I really would at least try talking to them otherwise they'll charge you for unauthorised o/d and then there'll be less money next month for bills and more chance of more charges etc etcDebt busting!
