Trainline Offer

Thanks Martin for trying to give us moneysavers an offer of £5.00 reduction on rail tickets booked with Trainline in this week's newsletter, but I had to give up with this website. I filled in all the details concerning the journey I wanted rail tickets for and also for my debit card and this was verified by my card issuer only for the website to give me an error message for the booking. Left having to contact the call centre (an 0870 number!!!) and was told all the tickets for that journey were sold out. However, the operator said he could book this over the phone but no I would not get the £5.00 off and surprise surprise when I gave him the same journey details I could still book for the same fare???? So either all the tickets were sold or not. I am now left waiting for the pending amount taken from my bank account not to be claimed and be returned to my account. So will not use this website again and I'll just queue up at the station to get my rail tickets.

That doesn't seem to me to be Martin/MSE's fault, it is the fault of the trainline surely?
Don't give up on MSE- there are loads of amazing things about this site
If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
It is Trainline I gave up on not MSE and was trying to warn other users that their website and call centre was not helpful with this kind offer that Martin had secured for us.0

I use them regularly and have never had a problem. Fairly ridiculous, for a single problem, to posture that they're working a fiddle on the £5 offer? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Glad you use them with no problem. For me , however, having tried the website and then being told by the call centre false information, then that does not make me want to use their service again. The offer has been swallowed up by the expensive phone call I had to make to the call centre and I still haven't purchased my tickets.0 -
I've saved £12 on fares today thanks to this offer. You have to do each journey as a separate transaction to get the £5 off (well, £4 really as they charge a £1 booking fee). But I won't be using their site after this offer due to the very high charges for using credit cards and the aforementioned £1 booking fee.0

It looks like the cost of the ticket(s) must be over £20 before the £5 discount applies. I tried to buy two tickets both costing £7.40 each and no discount was given. As soon as I added a third, the £5 discount was applied (well £4 if you take the pointless £1 booking fee into account).
An entry 'Moneysavingexpert GBP -5.00' appears on the final confirmation screen before clicking 'Continue to payment'.0 -
Me too! Thanks Martin for trying to give us moneysavers an offer of £5.00 reduction on rail tickets booked with Trainline in this week's newsletter, but I had to give up with this website.
I just lost the will to live, after trying to buy a ticket from Trainline.com.
Think I'll pop into the station next time I'm passing ..... and pay the extra £1.50 (£5.00 Discount less (Booking Fee £1.00 + Credit Card Fee £2.50)).
Trainline's software is cr*p. I ended up at the Register page several times, but if I tried to register, it told me I was already registered.
When I finally progressed to payment, extra bank info was requested, and it then gave me an error 5070 & told me to ring my bank. I avoided the premium rate 0845 number and used the normal STD number. Bank says there is no problem at their end. I'm not wasting money ring trainline's even more expensive 0870 number, so I'll buy my ticket the traditional way.0 -
I have just booked two tickets on the trainline website following Martin's link. When I first put in the details for these (total fares £43) I was due to receive £5 discount less £1 booking fee, revised total £39. However instead I made two separate bookings, each for one ticket, and so got the discount twice, revised total £35. Getting this extra discount doesn't work if you try to enter two separate tickets in the one booking session. You must complete one booking then do another. The tickets will come in two deliveries but so what!0
