barclaycard

i have been with barclaycard for 10 years and have never missed a payment, in fact have never missed a payment on any account. when i received decembers statement i thought i had made the payment, but inadvertently had sent it to bradford and bingley acc instead of barclaycard. payment was due on 16.1.09. on 17.1.09 i received my statement showing payment had not been made and that they had cancelled my low interest dea. i immediately rang barclaycard to explain what had happened and the very nice lady refunded the interest and set my account back to what it had been before due to my excellent credit record. I paid the amount owed including the follwoing months immediately. this reached my account on the 22.1.09 three working days after payemnt sent.

when the february statement was received i realised they had not refudned the interest correctly and rang them. They immeiately put it right and credidted my account with £25 as it was their error. Great I thought, good customer service for a change.

I then get a warning from my credit reference agency to inform me that barclaycard had posted a derogatory notice on my account for january. I am fuming. I rang and emailed them and the answer was tough. I have now written to head office. At no time during these calls was i informed my account would be tagged as derogatory. Barclaycard knew what had happened the day after the payment was due and even gave me £25 quid when the made a mess of it.
Is there nothing laid down that says there is a minimum time after payment is due/recieved before a notice is posted. This is teh first missed payment with any company in 30 years and I am horrified to have this on my credit record.

I have now set up a direct debit to stop this occuring again and have done this with all my accounts.

If they refuse to correct this is there anything i can do and how will this affect me in the future

  • HBOS did the same to me when I was in the process of changing banks. The mortgage payment was not able to be DD so I sent a bank transfer as agreed but HBOS marked my credit file as arrangement to pay. I still feel this was unnecessary and unfair. but they will not budge. A word of warning to anyone else changing banks do it after all your DD have left your account, not in the middle. You should be able to put a note against this on your credit file for any relevent searches that are done.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

A single late payment shouldn't have a huge impact on your credit records, as long as it's a solitary entry :)

have received a letter back from barclaycard today, basically saying tough, they know it wont be the answer i want but its tough. so next question is should i post a note on my credit file about this. i have read somewhere that this can affect applications worse than the one so called late payment. my mortgage deal comes to an end in august and i will be looking for another and am worried this one slip up will affect my mortgage chances. what does anyone recomend

    thanks
