I was going to suggest sunning out but you've tried that!! Hmm... What about a boil wash on the hob? I don't know how it's done but i have heard talk of the mums of terry nappies times boiling their nappies on the stove to get them pristine. Are they the fluffles or bamboozles or easyfits?

spray the stains with lemon juice then leave them on the line, if it rains still leave them as it's suppose to help aswell this should help fade the stains

Thanks. As it started to rain I brought them in from the line and have pretreated with ACE bleach and put them on a hot (75) wash with more bleach in the drum, and a full dose of bio powder. All no nos for the wellbeing of the nappy but needs must! I'll give them several rinses tonight, then hang them out rain or shine for a few days and also try the lemon juice idea. And if that doesn't work, they will just have to be his Bridget Jones nappies only to be used in dire laundry emergencies or when he has a dodgy tummy upset!

Apparently I had some groovy purple terry nappies that my mum dyed to hide the stains... (Can you tell I'm the eldest? By the time sibling number 4 came along, Mum had relaxed a lot more on stains!) I can also remember her boiling nappies in a big pan on the hob, not mine, would have been sibling number 3.

back in the 1960s when my two were small I had no washing machine or tumble dryer and only a tiny gas geyser on the wall in our shoebox size kitchen. With my first DD I had two dozen Harringtons nappies bought for me and this did both of my Dds .All I had was a nappy bucket with a lid and a big old black saucepan that covered two rings on my gas cooker .As I changed DDs butt I would rince out in cold water then put into the nappy bucket with nappisan in once I had several in there (probably every morning :)) They would go into the saucepan for a boil with a dollop of washing powder Omo or Daz which ever one was on the offer .but I would rince them several times first to get rid of the nappisan. They would be fast boiled for at least ten minutes then hooked out and rinced repeatedly until the water was clear then wrung out and hung on the washing line until dry.I never used conditioner (it was unheard of then ) and nappyliners never appeared on the market until 1970 when I used them with the nappies on my youngest. They were to me the best thing since sliced bread. I stll have around half a dozen left that I kept the others I passed on to my sis-in-law for her new addition.I use them as dusters and for polishing the insides of my windows when i clean them and although very threadbare now I wouldn't part with them as they are very soft and still wash up nicely.

I found this out after sheer laziness and exhaustion when my little two were both in cloth nappies. Wash them as normal and leave them on the line for a week :o. Let it rain on them, then let them dry in the sun, let nature repeat the process over and over (this week should be perfect!) Brought my nappies up beautifully when I eventually got round to pegging them in!!! :p

Just an update after 6 days of effort, 2 of the 5 are pristine again and the remaining 3 the stains have faded from bright yellow to a barely noticeable grey. I have treated with Ace bleach several times, rewashed them on hot about 6 times and for the remainder of the time they have been out on the line in rain and hot sunshine alternately.

The stained ones are now going to join the pristine ones in general circulation as you would need to look very closely at them to notice them, and I'm hoping no one other me will be so up close and personal with baby's bum! With luck a few more washes and line dries will fade them even more, but even if they don't get any better they are now usable and that's not bad for free nappies.
