Hi all ok i am in debt with my mums catalog i pay my mum £200 a month for goods that i have ordered i know i know i should know better, iv just split with my partner and im finding it really hard to pay this now why my income has dropped.
My mum is going to write a list of everything i have from them and i am going to ring them tomorrow,i just wanted to know if you thought they would let me take it over a longer term or if they would just turn around and say no.
Im really bricking myself over this debt cause i have just got with a new partner and he hates debt, and i cant tell him how much i owe them in fear of what he will say.

Hi Wirelover
I didn't want to read and run, although I am not one of the debt experts, but one will be along shortly, I am sure.
How much do you owe overall to the catalogue / how did you get to £200 a month that you owe your mum?
Well done for posting.0 -

You are probably better not contacting the catalogue company. The debt is in your mother's name and is her responsability (in the eyes of the catalogue company).
Have you posted up a SOA anywhere incase there are other areas we may be able to make some savings in so you can keep up the payments to your mum? Could you possibly get a 0% creditcard (such as virgin) to transfer the balance to the 0% card instead of having the debt in your mothers name? After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -
I agree with george. Its your debt, you need to make it your responsibility. A 0% card would be a great idea if you could do it.Working to make our future as secure and comfortable as possible.0

Hi there
Posting your SOA would be useful as there are lots of people on here who know how to reduce your outgoings so that you can throw more money at the debt.0 -
why dont' you start by returning the phone which arrived a couple of days ago? You can't afford it and it will help reduce your total debt.
Good luck with this tough challenge you will get loads of support on here. as suggest above please post your SOA so people can help guide you0 -
Agree with what George said.
Now, the other thing is that catalogues always charge over the odds for goods you can get much cheaper on the highstreet. Only mention that about the phone. Other goods in catalogues, too.
Okay, going to say this to you. There is absolutely no point arguing on the phone with them. They follow scripts and are told to only accept certain conditions on their terms not yours. It needs to be done in writing. And I would also get third party advice from someone like the Consumer Counselling Credit Services. To help you deal with this problem head on.my mum has just been on the phone to the catalog an they have told her because i have had stuff for more than 6 months i cant reduce my payments, what can i do???Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
