Ggggrrrr - thought lining up a photographer would be simple

Gggrrrrr.... cant sleep!

stressing over the lack of photography arrangements, despite exploring several options. Had a quote earlier for ceremony photos only (no reception), no prints, and a CD of the images - which has come in more expensive than the entire day!!! £675.... £200 more expensive than the original quotes, which included the b***y album and airbrushed prints we dont want and not the original copyrighted images we do! How does that work???

The whole wedding is coming in at around £650 to date, for 20 people at a sit down meal afterwards with everything included in that cost apart from my dress and photos. Following many discussions with OH, over the whole issue of photos we decided that £300 should be more than enough for a decent photographer to cover just the ceremony. That is, be there for guests arriving from 3.40, groom arriving, bride arriving, no photos during the ceremony (ie between 4 o clock - 4:15 ish), signing the register, leaving the registry office arond 4.25, and a few photos outside - probably going home for tea by 5 at the latest!!!

Just when I thought there was a recession going on - thought someone might want to earn some money for very little effort.... a few photos that need to be downloaded as they are (without the 'touching up') onto a CD. Worst of all, they all just seem interested in their really expensive packages, not one of them have actually asked us what we really want, or tried to understand why we want to do things our way, not theirs.

Sick of all of them. Apart from going back to Oh's original idea that he sets his own camera up at the wedding, I'm at a complete loss.

Is it just Essex that this happens?

most likely onto cd/dvd, tho i am sure he could also arrange printing..

Have you tried local colleges who do photography courses?
  • We have just has pretty much what you want, just photos during and after the ceremony all put onto disk, no prints.

We were charged £400 total, and they even offered to come with us and take photos of the cake cutting etc back at the house.

The company we used is based in lancashire, but if they are prepered to do it for that price I am sure other companies out there will be. There site is http://www.abbeyphotography.com/, Alistair who runs the site was on holiday for our wedding but made arrangements for another photographer to come so you might like to contact him and see if he knows anyone in your area.

Hope this helps, sorry I don't live by Essex to know more about your area.

I think it's possibly working out dearer because they are losing the option of making money on guests and yourselves buying extra prints?

When is your wedding? You might find it easier to get someone nearer the date who isn't going to get a 'better' offer so to speak

We just wanted a photographer for a couple of hours and found a reasonably prices one on our local Gumtree site, otherwise try the colleges as someone else suggested.

Try John Cook Photography - he's doing our ceremony and an hour and half afterwards as my Dad's a great photographer and we want someone to take the 'official' photos so my Dad can be in them too. I don't want to say how much we're paying as my brother often lurks around here, but it's only a few hundred pounds. He's giving us a copyright-free cd of all of his images. We don't have to have an album or anything else. He's really not pushy and is doing us a mega deal.

He's based in Twickenham, but coming to us in Hampshire, so he may well go to Essex. I obviously can't recommend him fully as he's not taken our pics yet, but he's been to see us for our pre-shoot chat and it all seems fine so far. He takes good images, and we should know, because we've seen some poor ones over the last few years!!

    HTH,
    Laura

    Hi all,

Thank you for your positive responses... its a nightmare! I hate photographers! I had another quote today, which isnt a lot better than the others - and OH wasnt happy bunny. His view is that they are all taking the ****!

I think I need a couple of de-stress days - too emotional to make any sort of rational decision at the mo!!

Its nearly the weekend, thank goodness!

my weddings not until June 2010, still feels quite far away! Yeah, getting the images on a disc (copywrite free) is something we couldn't find at many places, or if they did, they would charge ridiculous prices! Although it's a while to my wedding, and I can't assure you what the photo's will be like, haywoodjones have been really good so far, Bethan has been really helpful, and very friendly :)
