What if I just can't afford it...?

I've just been speaking with a friend, she's in a bit of trouble with her credit card, her store card, the electric...
Now, if she really is having problems paying all things things out, and keeping a family afloat - is there anything she can ask of the banks etc, to help ease the situation.
I advised that she should ask each org for a 'financial statement' with which she can outline all reasonable outgoing and incomings, and from that, make a sensible offer to the creditor, which could be reviewed at a later date.
I know I've dont this myself in the past... Is this how it works...
Maybe I'm wrong.. but my motto is... If I aint got it.. Then you certainly aint gonna get it either... Hmm think I might get some windowstickers done with that one there
Comments pls

From my own experience:
When my DH went bankrupt, i had to ring my creditors too and tell them i could no longer afford the repayments. Barclays were great and put me on a repayment plan which i could afford and froze all interest and Egg put me on a very low rate loan. Both creditors were very understanding and bent over backwards to help me. I didnt even have to fill out any financial forms.
I hope your friend can come to some arrangement with her creditors, but tell her not to wait, do it straight away, and best of all be honest.0 -
I have quite high bills on catalogues, but I could manage them, then got behind on a few months payments and now cant afford the minimum payments each month. They keep charging me the missed payment fee which is understandable, but really not helpful! It just bumps my min payment up even higher! This week I should have paid £80 to one catalogue, then £20 to another, meaning I would've had £10 to last the week. Not possible with a 16mth old! She needed clothes and food and milk and toiletries! I'm not willing for my child to suffer because I need to pay any kind of bill.... but your help would be greatly appreciated lol.
Thanks 4 helpin me btw! n love t sticker idea.... jus cos u like my shorthand, he he

Barbie01, call the companies and see if they can rearrange your payments to something more affordable, and close the accounts so you can't use them any more. As an alternate to uware's motto: If I haven't got it, then I shouldn't spend it.****************************************Money saving is addictive... get help and join MSE!0
