Threat of legal action but wrong address

My son has debts and is getting letters informing him of court action. However, he is now living in China. I have told the debt agencies this but the phone calls and letters keep coming to my house (this is where he used to live). I want my address removed from their legal claim, and the letters and phone calls to stop. - what can I do?

  • Yes, get your son to contact them. Otherwise they will, I am afraid, keep on hassling you as that was his last address. 'Heard it all before' is what will go through the minds of those chasing your son so they aren't all that inclined to believe what you tell them on the phone. That isn't me, just pointing that out. But your son must contact them and sort it out.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Just think how many times will these companies be told that so-and-so doesn't live here anymore etc. You need to prove that he doesn't. That will probably mean him contacting them. I had to show photo ID to prove I wasn't the previous owner of my house when debt collectors came round, but that sorted it straight away! :)
