Thank you for all the advise, we are in the process of getting the union involved and my wife is going to speak to the third manager up the line tomorrow.

The break down of implied trust is very worth pursuing here.

Two other members of staff have been called in by the supervisor today and asked 'weird' questions about conversations that may or may not have taken place. We're trying to find out exactly what happened here as well and what was asked, seems like they're building up for further harassment. Seems to me that her supervisor is gunning for my wife now. We're most bewildered by all this, my wife has only met her supervisor on three occasions, two of which were in interviews where the woman formed part of a panel that gave my wife jobs.

We're keeping detailed notes.

A little update, my wife spoke to the director of recruitment today, this lady was shocked and appalled and has stated that the verbal offer of employment is binding. She is intervening and will be talking to the manager involved in this fiasco. We've no idea how this will pan out, especially if a second person has also been offered the job.

We're still willing to take this the whole way.

We feel like we're making real progress now, after talking to dozens of lower managers it seems the top bod is keen to sort this out.
