Please dont use Somerfield etc coupons at ASDA - a salutory tale !

Hi - My friend regularly used about £10 of coupons with each shop at her local Asda - and then - in about October they changed their rule - now they will only take one coupon - and they are all ( even students etc in the evening ) very strict about it. Yesterday my friend was chatting to a lad and checking it was still the rule . He said "yes I am afraid so - and it's my fault " . Of course she asked why to be told that somebody had been through his till and used lots of Somerfield coupons interspersed with manufacturers ones - he only realised afterwards and confessed it to his supervisor. As a result the store totally changed their policy and consequently my friend has had to pay lots more for her shopping ! As the store cannot claim their money back from Somerfield etc coupons they are naturally not happy if anyone uses them - and it can affect all of us ! Please all - only use manufacturers coupons NOT store specific - please !!!

  • ...........unless the store is happy to accept tokens from another.

Tesco has large banners saying that they will accept Sainsburys tokens. And they regularly do from me. £4 at the weekend, and I've got another 7 £4 tokens I think.

I have some money off a specific product at sainsburys only vouchers. Can I use those vouchers at Tesco without buying the relevant item?

I have used Sainsburys money off at Tesco - just handed over a pile and they scanned OK and I watched my total get smaller and smaller.

Although I have had an SA say they are only allowed to take one Sainsbury voucher at a time but he did sort through the pile for the high value one and take that off.

I think Sainsbury are catching on though - their latest vouchers are for double nectar points so they won't be much good in Tesco

And give it a nudge in the right direction occasionally :o
  • There is a difference between the vouchers that give you say £5 off a £50 pound shop - and vouchers that say give you 50p off Nescafe in Sainsburys. The former are often accepted by stores because they are trying to lure you away from your normal shop ( and know that you are doing a biggish shop in order to be able to use the voucher) - however the manufacturers coupons they claim back for - and cannot claim back if used in the wrong store. Its just that , as coupon users, we dont want to annoy the supermarkets too much - because if they stop taking them all together then we will all suffer!

Had a feeling that might be the case....hence why I asked and why the leaflets are un-used. Oh well....recycling box for them then
