Hiya, My sister has been using her individual version of Makaton for as long as I can remember (she has Down's and is 33) and we use that and signalong at work.

Have a go at the BBC's Something Special website. Mr Tumble teaches children Makaton and I know they used to have a range of basic signs to print out and stuff. I would imagine they still do.

Alternatively have a go with "Objects of reference" which sounds far more than it really is. really it is where you get small "Objects" and assign an use to it, so maybe a small bar of soap or a flannel would mean bath, a small cup drink, toy car means going out and so on. There are no hard and fast rules, just use what works best for the two of you. Keep the items all together in a bag or box and use as a means of communication so if you want your child to get ready for a bath, get out the bar of soap and say about having a bath, or your child would go and get the cup out of the bag if they wanted a drink.
